MJF and Will Ospreay Crush It With an Hour-Long Classic | Wrestling Wrap Up

I’ve got Wyatt Six/6/Six/Sicks things to discuss this week (once again), but I also want to immediately call out AEW Dynamite 250 for putting on a heck of a show – particularly the MJF/Ospreay 59-minute classic!

What a showing! To quote an old movie review pull quote: “I wasn’t just sitting on the edge of my seat, I was sitting on the edge of the seat of the guy next to me.” Except in my case it was a couch. And my cat. But I did feel like I also needed supplemental oxygen afterwards.

Also, I can’t find that quote online anywhere. Or who said it. It could have been Rex Reed but maybe I just attribute all old silly movie review quotes to him after he pronounced 1996’s Sleepers as “Steamy.”

My point is, with no sourcing readily available, I could just have made that line up and Mandela’d my own damn self. Or is it Mandala’d? Anyhoo, this was an f’n banger…

When the McRib is back.
When the McRib is back.

A small part of me wishes MJF wrestled more in line with the heel that he is, but then again if he did he wouldn’t be able to deliver time-limit gems like the one this week. I’m glad AEW dabbles in these long af matches from time to time. WWE could stand to let their folks go for an hour every so often too. It’s been ages for them. AEW gives us a couple of these a year, it seems. I was at the Winter Is Coming Dynamite back in 2021 and got to see Danielson vs. Page and it was mesmerizing.

What did y’all think of MJF vs Ospreay? Or [opening up the gates of hell here] what do you think about AEW right now in general? Personally, I think their TV is inconsistent, but that’s not the worst thing in the world. A meager quibble. Who isn’t inconsistant these days? Mostly, I just have concerns about Collision. I’ve got Collision tickets to one of the many Arlington Collisions coming up and I’m a little meh emoji about it. I’m just worried it’s gonna be all stinky babies out there. No one’s going to be 60-minute wrestling their way into an oxygen tank, that’s for sure.

By the way, Arlington Collisions sounds like a blue-blood family who robber-baron’d their wealth by union-busting copper mills. “Hi, I’m Jasper Collision. Yes, of the Arlington Collisions.”

Whatever, my mates and I will make our own fun there. Now, let’s open the floodgates of extreme and irrational wrestling tribalism:

That won’t cause any problems at all.

Blood & Guts is up next week for AEW and the five-on-five bout looks pretty righteous but… shouldn’t there be ramifications for the losers? If you’re going up against the bosses I feel like some added stips would help. No one’s career is on the line, right? Or title shot chances? No one will even be the other person’s butler if they lose.

I guess I’m wondering, from a story standpoint, what’s in it for The Elite? You could argue they’re competitors, sure, but they already have the gold and this type of match is a “career ender/shortener.” Something heels should not want to be a part of. Maybe if Okada got a date with Mercedes Moné if his team wins…

I know there’s been some critcism of AEW not capitalizing on the grandeur of Okada since his debut, but I’m more than fine if he just hangs around and acts like a cartoon wolf.

Is somebody gonna match our freak?
Is somebody gonna match our freak?

Okay, so… the Wyatts. Do we like what’s been happening weekly? I don’t mean with the promos, really, since this week saw Erick Rowan deliver a very emotional one about losing both Brodie and Bray. That all works. I mean the feud with Chad Gable, which has now turned into a stable war since Chad’s now recruited the Creed Brothers (which was always going to be a natural fit). I’m holding off judgment, of course, since it’s best to let this all play out, but do we like the Wyatts as babyfaces? Do you still consider them monster tweeners or are they just fan favorites now?

Trying to get the crowd against them was always going to be a completely futile endeavor. I’m just saying that we’re a bit askew now from where the Wyatts began when they, you know, mercilessly murdered everyone. It’s a little incongruous.

Naturally, tides shift and plans change. Hell, there’s a whole WrestleMania documentary about that right now, but I’ve got some worry about these wonderful, sad creatures losing their teeth.

In last week’s poll, about 40% of you voted that The Wyatts were after Chad because he was a bad “father” to his “family.” This is probably where they’re going, even though nothing got spelled out on this week’s TV. Bottom line: I’m torn. I like the heartfelt dives we’ve gotten in the weekly promos but also the “attraction” element’s getting diluted a little bit. We need another inciting incident. Let’s have them run roughshod a few more times before banishing them from business class.

KNEELIFT!
